I went in person to the office to try to obtain a death certificate for genealogical purposes only. The response I got is what makes people want smaller government. The (apparently) head clerk said that genealogy is a low priority, I could fill out a form but they wouldn't get to it for months. And it wasn't just what she said, but how she said it. Stereotypical "civil servant". Very disappointed.
My baby was born the first week of March it is now the third week of May and still have not revieved the birth certificate! They say they are still working on February births!!! It is a huge problem when you can't prove your baby is yours!! They need more workers and more coffee or something, that's nothing to be proud of Albany! Edit: its now June 8th no birth certificate yet!

I went here some years ago to get a copy of my birth certificate and had no issues. I went to get another copy a few weeks ago and was greeted by the same woman who was again polite and friendly. I filled out the form and presented it to the clerk. She couldn't pull up my information. I then remembered that my neither wanted me to have her last name as well so i corrected that. The woman then asked if i had an ID with that complete name on it i said no, and let her know that I've jever had that second name on any ID ive had. She insisted that i had to have an ID that had both last names on it. All other information was accurate and correct. I feel like shedidn't want to help me out at all and just wanted to get me out of there. I needed a copy for an electricians apprenticeship program that is very improtant. Now i have to ask my parents to request it by mail for me. Very inconvenient.
Called for copy of my marriage certificate. Couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Wow.. What a shock to talk to a real person, and a courteous and one too!!!!!!!!!
