Among the best restored ship tours out there, the effort and dedication of the volunteers really shows. This is not as much a museum ship, as it is a period-correct restoration. The Slater is an excellent representation of how a WWII era combat ship looked and felt, at the time of its service. The tour volunteer at the time of my visit really knew the ship, and genuinely enjoyed giving the tour.

Took my dubious 10 year old daughter who ended up enjoying the tour of this WWII destroyer/escort ship. I myself was enthralled. Our tour guide, Art, was very knowledgeable and really made the history come alive. It's amazing to realize that young American men took this very ship into harm's way in defense of our country back in the 1940's.

Absolutely fantastic! I stopped in on a whim, though going and visiting old battleships is a hobby of mine. We got a guided tour, which normally I shy away from, but our tour was fantastic! The tour guide was very knowledgeable, had served in the Coast Guard himself, and told us both the standard tour bits, but also tailored the tour to our group. He Taylor The Experience based on how long we wanted to be there, which was a bit longer than normal, as we were a group of veterans who were very interested in the history of the ship. It was a personal enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend this for families, school trips, or any navy veteran just wanting to reconnect. The ship is well-maintained, and is a great piece of History sitting in the middle of downtown Albany.

The high point for me was learning the original Captain of this ship had

A fascinating, restored piece of American military history that is definitely worth seeing. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly. I would suggest trying to get in a smaller group with few children if possible in order to have the best experience. (My group was too large and the kids ruled the roost.) Overall, surely worth a visit.

donated to the Slater the very same items he had in the cabin during WWII. If you're into US Navy and WWII history, this one is a real can't miss.

Had such a great time touring the USS Slater. Such a great part of history. Our tour guide was Herb he was fantastic. He was so friendly and knowledgeable.
