Can you believe that just to the northeast of the Albany Rural Graveyard, there's an old steel mill laced with dozens of dangerous chemicals and hazardous wastes? I don't know about you, but burying our friends and family next door to a superfund site is either the best or worst idea ever, depending on how likely you believe zombies are going to rise up and whether they'll be just like the ones in Left 4 Dead.

Large cemetery. Nice ground keepings.

Beautiful and huge cemetery with lots of lovely quiet paths and trails. Best place for a quiet walk in the area.

We had heard that the 21st President of the United States was buried here. The office staff was helpful and gave us a map of the cemetery and we drove right to it. This place is huge and some of the headstones are quite elaborate.

Albany Rural Cemetery is a very peaceful place to visit. The cemetery is well cared for and amazingly they continuously in the process of repairing the deteriorating stones. Each season brings a special treat to those who visit with blooming flowers, birds, and trees in full dress. I n the Autumn the trees put on a show and decorate the tombstone in reds, yellows, oranges, and greens. In the winter everything is decorated in white. In the spring once again flower buds, green grass begins to cover the ground once again, bees begin to hum, and birds sing in the trees. Amongst death life abounds. If you get a chance, I would recommend stopping by the cemetery, take a walk around, read the tombstones, and visit the waterfalls and wooded trails. They would welcome donations, I am sure, to repair those civil war stones that have seen better days.
